What better way for students to celebrate #biologyweek than by doing biology experiments! Here are students from St. Joseph's College, Galway celebrating Biology Week 2013 with a successful experiment immobilising enzymes!
Today marks the beginning of Biology Week 2013. It is only the second ever Biology Week, organised by the Society of Biology - based in the UK.
There are many events that have been organised around the UK. Unfortunately, there are none for Ireland, but it would be great if teachers could take part in Biology Week by using some of the teaching resources available on the societyofbiology.org website. There are a number of activities that the Society have made available on its website that would enable Irish students to be involved in Biology Week 2013.
Teachers and schools could also organise their own event, such as having a Biology Quiz; organising a unique Biology experiment that the students may not have the opportunity to do otherwise; organising a trip away to a local biotech company, Dublin zoo or Galway Atlantaquaria...; inviting in speakers - such as lecturers from your local IT or University.
I will post information about some activities that we will be doing in our school over the coming week!
leavingcertbiology.net has gone live today, 5th October 2013 - being as it is World Teachers' Day!
I am aiming for it to be a useful resource for biology students and teachers alike.
It will have biology notes, PowerPoints, new and interesting teaching ideas, my own teaching timeline and a biology blog (this being my first post).
Anyway, I hope you will all enjoy it! Feel free to give feedback on the site. Back to working on improving it now!
