Monday 11/3/19: TO DO: Dissection of a lamb’s heart. DONE:Did the above. Homework: complete experimental write-up and answer practical activity questions 1-7 on page 327.


Friday 8/3/19: TO DO: Correct homework questions and cover the Rhesus factor blood grouping system as well as rhesus incompatibility and DVT. DONE: Did the above. Homework: complete the sample exam questions page 314 and sketch the structure of the human heart on page 321.

Thursday 7/3/19: TO DO: Correct homework questions and cover white blood cells in more detail. Mention all the various types. DONE: Did the above. Homework: questions 7, 8 and 9.

Monday 4/3/19: TO DO: Start on the topic of blood. Cover the components, functions and structure of a red blood cell, white blood cells and platelets and genetics of the ABo blood group. DONE: Didn’t quite get WBCs and platelets covered. Homework: questions 1-6 and 10 and 12 page 314.


Friday 1/3/19: TO DO: Give test to those students who were absent yesterday. Cover secretion, kidney failure, dialysis and osmoregulation with the others. DONE: Did all of the above. Homework: Complete worksheet given out.

Wednesday 27/2/19: TO DO: Continue with reabsorption section of the urinary system and cover dialysis if time. DONE: Covered the reabsorption section of urine formation. Did not get secretion or dialysis covered. Homework: study for test tomorrow.

Monday 25/2/19: TO DO: Practical activity to investigate the effect of exercise on pulse rate. DONE: Did the above. Students used rowing machines in the weights room. Students also wrote up practical in their lab note books. Homework: complete write-up if not finished, answer practical activity questions on page 328 and study for upcoming test on Thursday.


Friday 15/2/19: TO DO: Continue on with the urinary system. Cover the function of the various parts of the nephron. DONE: Covered filtration and reabsorption in the PCT. Homework: study for upcoming test.

DONE: Corrected homework questions and gave extra questions on a worksheet. Completed the section on enzyme immobilisation. Did not start bioreactor/batch/CF processing. Homework: study for upcoming test next Thursday.

Thursday 13/12/18:
TO DO: Correct homework questions as well as checking on experimental write-ups from Monday’s practical activity. Complete cell immobilisation as well as batch v continuous flow bioprocessing.
DONE: Recapped on experiment and corrected homework questions. Discussed an experiment to do next Monday. Did not get batch v continuous flow covered. Homework: complete the long questions  from the given worksheet.

TO DO: Practical activity: to demonstrate osmosis using Visking tubing. Also, try to get the heat denaturation of enzymes activity completed.
DONE: Students got both actvities completed. Homework: complete the experimental write-ups in their lab copies.
