The first unit in the study of Leaving Cert Biology is called ‘the study of life’. It provides that very important base upon which the more complex knowledge of biology can be built.
Chapter 1 concerns the important topic of the scientific method whereby students learn about the processes involved in ‘doing’ science. Chapter 2 then goes on to describe the five characteristics of life. Chapter 3, which most biology teachers would agree is one of the most important topics in biology – for the purpose of moving forward with learning biology and the understanding of biology. Chapters 4 and 5 concern Ecology and your teacher will probably decide to leave this topic until later in your first year of studying biology – but can be studied at any time of year.
